Nederlandsche Handel-Maatschappij (N.H.M.) hired Dutch frigate Burgemeester Hoffmann as troop transport according to the Dutch newspaper Java-bode dated 8 September 1860

An item reported that the N.H.M. hired the Dutch ship Burgemeester Hoffman captain De Witt to transport from the Netherlands towards Java, Dutch East Indies 30 non-commissioned officers an d military and to pick up at St. George d‘Elmina [Dutch Gold Coast=Ghana] 100-150 negro recruits with the same destination. The recruits were also to serve in the Dutch East Indies.(1)
