American nuclear submarine Nautilus (SSN-571) 1951-still existing

In July 1941 approved the Congress to built a nuclear submarine. The definitive building of the SSN-571 was ordered on 2 August 1951, announcement that she was to be named Nautilus on 12 December, laid down on 14 June 1952 at the shipyard of the Electric Boat Division, Groton, Connecticut, sponsored by Mamie Eisenhower launched on 21 January 1954, completed on 22 April 1955, commissioned on 30 September 1954, decommissioned on 3 March 1980 and preserved as museum ship. First ship completing a submerged transit to the North Pole [in 1958]. With a displacement of 3.533 (surfaced)-4.092 (submerged) tons were her dimensions 97,5 x 8,5 x 7,9 metres or 320‘x 28‘x 26. ‘Horsepower 13.400 hp allowing a speed of 23 knots.Her crew consisted of 105 men. The armament consisted of 6 torpedo tubes.
