A letter written on board of the Mary Wilder captain Barker of New Bedford at Paita, Peru on 5th June reports that she had a catch of 950 barrels sperm oil and 150 barrels whale oil. Everything was well on board. She intended to begin a sperm whale cruise expecting to return home in January 1860. Most of the oil came from catches around the Galapagos Islands [Ecuador].(1)
