Danish turret ironclad Gorm 1867-1912
Also called a monitor. Laid down at the naval dockyard at Copenhagen, Denmark on 18 November 1867, launched on 17 May 1870, commissioned on 23 June 1871, decommissioned on 12 June 1912 and the same year broken up at Stettin.
With a displacement of 2.350 tonnes/2.310 long tons were her dimensions 71,74 (between perpendiculars0 x 12,21 x 4,39 metres or 235’4” x 40’1” x 14’4”. The horsepower of 1.600 ihp delivered via two shaft allowed a speed of 12 knots. With a speed of 8,5 knots and a coal bunker capacity of 770 tons (of 300 pd) and a consumption of 22 tons coals each hour she had a range of 900 nautical miles. With a crew numbering 157 men consisted her armament of 2 rifled 26cm/10” 120pd guns in one rotating turret; and possible 2-3“ guns on deck. The armour consisted of a 17,8cm/7’ thick belt with the gun turret protected by 20,3cm/8” thick armour (8“ thick plates on 17½” wood). Building costs included armament 1.871.238 crones.
