Icelandic whalers Hvalfur 6, 7 and 9 on 2 June 2009

Hvalur 6 (RE 376), IMO 5157327, call sign TFMGSK no. 115 and homeport Hvalfjördur, Iceland. Built in 1948 at the shipyard of A&P Tees, Middlesbrought, United Kingdom, , gross tonnage 433 tons, dating from 1946, probably ex-Southern Sailor. Owned and managed by Hvalur, Hafnarfjordur, Iceland.

Hvalur 7 (RE 377), IMO 5157339, MMSI 251375110, call sign TFJK, SK no. 116 and homeport Hvalfjördur, Iceland. Built at Smiths Docks Newcastle, Newcastle, United Kingdom in 1945, gross tonnage 426 tons. Ex-Southern Wilcox renamed 1961. Owned and managed by Hvalur, Hafnarfjordur, Iceland.

Hvalur 9 (RE399), IMO 5261148, MMSI 251365110, call sign TFLY, SK no. 997, homeport Reykjavik, Iceland, launched in 1952 at the shipyard Langesunds Mekaniske Verksted, Langesund, Norway, purchased in 1966. Owned and managed by Hvalur, Hafnarfjordur, Iceland. Served during the so-called Cod War in 1973 between Iceland and England as the Coast Guard ICGV Tyr (nicknamed Hval-Tyr) armed with a 5,7cm gun. With a gross register tonnage of 573,4 tons and as dimensions 51,15 (over all) x 9,06 x 5,65 metres or 167’10’ x 29’9”x 18’6”.  Speed 17 knots. Ex-Tiger renamed January 1966 and in January 1973 temporarily called Tyr.
