British steamship Daylesford and Russian 3-mast schooner Puhlin both sunk after collision according to the Dutch newspaper Vlissingse Courant dated 11 April 1911
An item reported the collision in the heavy fog between the British iron-built 14.06 register tons steamship Daylesford (of 1882) underway loaded with coal from Blyth, England towards Torre del Mar. Spain off Wight with the Russian 3-mast schooner Puhlin underway with timber from Laguna towards Hamburg, Germany. Within 5 minutes sunk the Daylesford but her crew was saved on board of the Puhlin. She was however also heavily damaged and the crew of the Daylesford was taken on board of the Danish steamship Vulcan and brought towards Dover, England. The 9 crewmembers of the Puhlin stayed in boats by their ship until she capsized at 17.30 o’clock and sunk. The crew went to St. Catherine’s Point and arrived there safely.
