Of the Wickes-class, preceded by Caldwell-class, succeeded by Clemson-class.. Laid down
at Mare Island Navy Yard on 15 May 1918, launched on 1 June 1918. Commissioned on
24 July 1918, hull number DD-139 received in July 1920, decommissioned on 21
July 1921, recommissioned on 15 January 1941, reclassified as the high speed
transport APD-16 on 6 February 1943 and was attacked by a Japanese kamikaze aircraft
in the invasion area in the Ormoc Bay, Leyte, Philippines on 7 December 1944. She
was finally abandoned and sunk by gunfire from the USS O’Brien.

9.10 feet. Fitted out with 2 geared steam turbines. Speed 35 knots. Her crew numbered
231 men. The armament consisted of 4-4”/10cm 50cal guns, 2-3”/7,6cm 50cal anti
aircraft guns and 4x3-21”/53cm torpedo tubes.
