US Navy possible building battle cruisers according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1939 no. 12

An item referred to the R.U.S.I. dated August 1939 reporting that in the US press itemss mentioned the building of a complete new kind of warships with a displacement of 15.000-16.000 ton, an armament of 6/8-30,5cm guns and a speed of 32 knots/ There seemed already two to be laid down with as task harassing the merchant shipping of the enemy. If these ships were indeed built, was the next step escorting convoys by battleships. The item believed that the new ships must be battle cruisers.(1)

Note
1. The Alaska-class of very large cruisers with a main armament of 3x3-12” guns and a speed of 33 knots of which just the USS Alaska and Guam are commissioned had a displacement of 29.771 tons (standard). Perhaps this item was referring ot one of the several designs which led to this class.
