An item dated New York, USA 4th reported that although tidings received from Paris, France mentioned an agreement between England, France and Italy to decrease the tonnage of battleships the American secretary Stimson (1) stated that the USA retained to a maximum tonnage of 35.000 tons.(2)

2. The first completed battleships in the 1930’s- the North Carolina-class had indeed a displacement of 35.000 tons. The preceding Tennessee and Colorado-classes had a displacement of respectively 32.000 and 32.600 tons while the South Dakota-class of 43.200 tons is never completed.
