Former Spanish cruiser Aragon arrived in the Netherlands to be broken up according to the Dutch newspaper Het nieuws van den dag dated 30 March 1901

An item reported that the 30 years old Spanish cruiser Aragon passed the Koningshaven, Rotterdam, Netherlands sighted by a large number of watchers. She was bought by Fr. Rijsdijk to be broken up.(1) The Dutch tug Zwarte Zee of L. Smit&Co. towed her from La Ccrracca near Cadiz, Spain towards Rotterdam. The cruiser was assured during the voyage by the Rotterdamsche Beurspolis for ƒ 20.000. A second Spanish warship the Gerona (1) also to be broken up was expected to arrive on short notice.

Building ordered in January 1869, laid down as an armoured central battery corvette at the naval shipyard, Cartagena, Spain on 2 May 1869, decided to complete her as an wood-built unprotected cruiser/corvette in 1870, launched on 31 July 1879, completed in 1880, decommissioned in mid-1890s, hulked in 1896.
2. This must be the screw steam frigate Gerona built at Cartagena, Spain in 1864.
