British Royal Navy planned building of protected cruisers HMS Andromeda, Diadem, Europa and Niobe according to the Dutch newspaper Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1895-1896 No. 7

HMS Diadem

An item referred to the magazine La Marine francaise reported that the new to be built [protected] cruisers for the British Royal Navy were to be named Andromeda (1), Diadem (2), Europa (3) and Niobe (4). The armament consisted of 12-12,5cm guns mounted in casemates, 12-7,5cm guns, 12-4,7cm guns, 4 Maxim machineguns and 3 torpedo tubes (one aft submerged).

1. Diadem-class, laid down by Pembroke Dockyard on 2 December 1895, launched on 30 April 1897, completed on 5 September 1898, renamed Powerfull II on 23 September 1913, renamed Impregnable II in November 1919, renamed Defiance on 20 January 1931 and sold to be broken up in 1956.
2. Diadem-class, laid down by Fairfield Shipbuilding&Engineering Company ltd., Govan, Scotland on 23 January 1896, launched on 21 October 1896, completed on 19 July 1896 and sold to be broken up on 9 May 1921.
3. Diadem-class. Laid down by J&G Thompson, Clydebank, Scotland on 10 January 1896, launched on 20 March 1897, completed on 23 November 1899 and sold to be broken up on 15 September 1920.
4. Diadem-class, laid down by Vickers Limited, Barrow-in-Furness, England on 16 December 189, launched on 20 February 1897, handed over to Canada and commissioned on 6 September 1910, stricken in 1920 and broken up in 1922.
