Singapore was to become major British naval base with repair facilities for largest warships according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1923

An item reported that the British Common House after a long discussion decided that in the next 10 years a navy yard at Singapore was to be built large enough for maintaining the largest warships. The cabinet pointed the importance of this decision out for the safety of the Dominions and the protection of the British interests in the Far East. At the same time wanted England not to threat Japan in any way or disregard the Washington Naval Treaty and the intentions of the League of Nations.
