Building of French battleship Clemenceau ordered according to the Dutch newspaper Soerabaijasch handelsblad dated 24 August 1938

Richelieu-class

An item dated Paris, France 23rd reported that that the French department of navy ordered the building of the 35.000 tons battleship Clemenceau, the third of this type, armed with 8-38cm guns. (1)

1. Of the Richelieu-class consisting of the Richelieu, Jean Bart, Clemenceau and Gascogne. She was laid down at the Arsenl de Brest, France on 17 January 1939, the uncompleted hull sunk after US Airforce air attack on 27 August 1944 and after the Second World War broken up.
