French submarine Surcouf fitted out with 20cm guns according to the Dutch newspaper Soerabaijasch handelsblad dated 19 April 1930


An item dated London, England 18th referred to a statement of the naval export of the newspaper Daily Telegraph who reported that the new French 4.300 tons measuring French submarine cruiser Surcouf was armed with 20cm guns instead of 14cm guns. This larger calibre was allowed under the regulations of the Naval Conference. (1)

1. Submarine cruiser. Her building was ordered in December 1927, launched on 18 October 129m commissioned in May 1934 and sunk on 18 February 1942 around 70 nautical miles north of Christóbal and actually stricken of the navy list on 6 December a year later.
