Swedish armoured cruiser Fylgia to be modernized according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1939 no. 10


An item reported that the Swedish cruiser Fylgia was to be modernized making her useful despite her age to serve during the next 10-15 years as training ship for the merchant protection along the west coast. One funnel and one mast were to be removed and the 15cm/5.9” guns to be renewed with as result that her fire range increased from 12 to 17 kilometres. The anti aircraft armament was to consist of 5,7cm/2.44”, guns 4-4cm/1.57” guns and 2-8mm machineguns. The 2-45cm/17.7” submerged torpedo tubes were replaced by 2-21” deck torpedo tubes just for training and she was to received a modern fire control system.(1)

1. Armoured cruiser, laid down by Finnboda, Stockholm Bergsund, Sweden in October 1903, launched on 21 December 1905, completed on 21 June 1907, rebuilt by Oscarshamn shipyard between 1939-1941, stricken on January 1953 still serving as a target until 1957 when she was sold to be broken up.
