Japanese icebreaker AGB Odomari 1921-1950

Building ordered under the Eight-Eight Program in 1920, laid down by Kawasaki Shipbuilding Company, Kobe, Japan on 24 June 1921, launched on 3 October 1921, completed on 7 November 1921, served in the Ominato Guard District, surrendered at Yokosuka, Japan on 2 September 1945, stricken from the navy list on 15 September 1945, with a worn out boiler not suitable to be used as repatriation ship and finally broken up at Tsurumi, Japan between October 1949 and March 1950. Was to be replaced by the Esan Project number J23 under the Kai-Maru Program of 1942 but which building was cancelled in 1943.

Call sign JFEQ. Displacement 2.367 (standard) and as dimensions 60,96 (between perpendiculars) x 15,24 x 5,55 metres or 200.0 x 50.0 x 18.3 feet. The machinery consisted of 2 triple expansion reciprocating steam engines and 5 scotch boiler supplying via 2 shafts 4.000shop allowing a speed of 13 knots and with a coal bunker capacity of 500 tons was her range 4.000 nautical miles. Crew numbered 101 men. The original armament consisted of 1-7,6cm/3” L/40 Armstrong gun, in the Second World War 1-7,6cm/3” L/40 Armstrong gun, 2-2,5cm Type 96 anti aircraft guns and 6 1,3cm Type 93 anti aircraft guns and depth charges.
