German steamship Berlin salvaged in the Oderbank near Swinemünde by Soviets according to a CIA report dated 7 July 1948

An item dealing with the Russian controlled German zone reported the salvage in August 1947 of the former German 18.000 gross tons steamship Berlin in the Oderbank near Swinemünde. She was earlier salvaged by the Russian firm Ebos but sunk again costing 4. Million RM.(1)

1. Launched by Bremer Vulkan, Vegesack, Germany for account of the Norddeutscher Lloyd with yard number 614 on 24 March 1925 as a passenger ship, since 1939 cruising for labourers and then converted into the hospital ship Lazarettschiff A and commissioned on 23 August 1939. Sunk after hitting two mines in shallow waters on 31 January 1945. Repaired and commissioned as the ss Admiral Nakhimov with as homeport Odessa, Ukraine of the Black Sea Steamship Company until 31 August 1985 when sunk due to a collision with the bulk carrier Pyotr Vasev. Originally 15.286 gross register tonnage, after conversion 17.053 tons and as dimensions 174 x 69.0 metres x 572 x 69.0 feet.
