The Soviet Volga Freight Steamship Company tugs according to a CIA report dated 1 May 1953

An item reported that the Volga Freight Steamship Company was subordinated to the Central Directorate of Volga-Kama-Basin which part of the Soviet Ministry of the River Fleet. It possesses except 250 barges over around 250 self-propelled vessels. Of the latter 250 were around 150 wheel steam tugs of a common design fitted out with a compound steam engine with a horsepower of around 600-800 hp at 30-35 rpm and usually 2 Corneville type boilers allowing while empty a speed of 12/15 (downstream)-6/8 (upstream) kilometres,
