The importance of the Czechoslovakian [nowadays Slovakian] Danube harbour of Komarno according to a CIA report dated 1948

An item reported that the great importance of the Czechoslovakian [nowadays Slovakian] Danube harbour of Komarno especially due to the shipbuilding and repair facilities and the possibility to unload iron ore needed for the steel plant at Moravska Ostrava [nowadays Czech Republic]. At the moment was just one shipyard available but a second one was under construction with around 10 times the size of the already existing yard. It should be possible to build ships with a maximum length of 60 metres. Bridges across the river and the winter harbour provided a connection for railways and cars. The one-store warehoused were used to (temporarily) storage fresh foods but also wine, tobacco and dry goods.
