Austrian Korneuburg shipyards built barges for Soviet account according to a CIA report dated 5 June 1953

An item reported that the Austrian Korneuburg shipyards recently completed five modern barges for the lower Danube service and which were handed over to the Soviet Union. Tugs were to tow the barges towards Reni. In the meantime were the barges already handed over to the Soviet crews numbering 4 men accommodated in well-furnished. Load capacity with a normal water level was 90-100 freight car loads. The barges looked very like tugs fitted out with radio receiving and transmitting sets, steam heating and diesel-generated electric power for lightning.
