Dutch whale catcher Nellie (AM 11) (1937) 1948-1961

Call sign PGEO. Built by Isaka Iron Works, Japan for account of Nippon Suisan K.K., Tokyo, Japan as the whale catcher Takunan Maru 5 in 1937. In the Second War used by the Japanese navy as patrol vessel. In August 1945 lying at Surabaya, Dutch East Indies and seized by the Dutch government. Bought for account of the N.V. Nederlandse Maatschappij voor de Walvisvaart, Amsterdam, Netherlands (Vinke&Co.) on 1 August 1948 despite her desolate condition, towed by the Dutch tug Hudson to the Netherlands departing Surabaya on 16 June 1948, arriving at Rotterdam, Netherlands on 12 September 1948, rebuilt by shipyard H. de Hoog, Rotterdam, registered on 2 August as AM-11, departed for her first voyage on 29 September 1949, laid up at Cape Town, South Africa after the end of the season 1955-1956 and on 19 January 1961 sold in South Africa to be broken up. Gross tonnage 348  tons and as dimensions 40,53-43,59 x 9,24 x 4,03 (hold) metres. The 1.300ihp Osaka Iron Works 3 cylinder steam engine allowed a speed of 13 knots.
