British protected cruiser HMS Phoebe visited the Dutch East Indies in 1905

Pearl-class

An item reported that the British cruiser HMS Phoebe (1) visited Tandjong Priok, Dutch East Indies on 3 October 1905.(2)

Notes
1. Part of the Pearl-3rd class cruisers consisting of the Pearl, Pandora, Pallas, Pelorus, Persian, Philomel, Phoebe, Phoenix and Psyche, preceded by the Barham-class and succeeded by the Apollo-class. Designed by Sir William White (2 February 1845 Plymouth, Devon, England-27 February 1913 London, England). Laid down at the navy yard at Devonport, England on 23 April 1889, launched on 1 July 1890, completed in March 1892, [art of the Cape and West Africa Station 1893-1897, laid up in reserve, part of the Australia Station 1901-1905 and paid off and sold to A. Anderson, Copenhagen, Denmark on July 1906.
2. The Dutch newspaper Het nieuws van den dag voor Nederlandsch-Indië dated 3 October 1905 reported her arrival at Tandjong Priok coming from Australia and that two more ships were expected. The Bataviaasch nieuwsblad dated 7th reported her departure towards Trincomalee, Ceylon. Commanding officer was Robinson.
