1. Of the steel built French Surprise class gunboats, launched by Normand, Le Havre, France on 24 April 1895, completed in 1896 and sunk on 3 December 1916 after she was torpedoed by a German submarine.
2. Sabang was an important coal bunkering harbour at that time for Dutch and foreign (war)ships.
