Building ordered in December 1860, laid down by Thames Ironworks, Blackwall, London, England in January 1862, launched on 4 November 1865, completed in May 1867, commissioned in February 1878, modernized into a central battery-ironclad and reamed at Forges et Chantiers de la Méditerranée, La Seyne-sur-Mer, France between 1896-1898, reclassified as coastal defence ship in 1899, became a training ship and stricken and broken up in 1912. Iron made hull. Displacement 7.250 tons and as dimensions 96.8 x 17.3 x 7.7 metres or 317.7 x 56.9 x 25 feet. The 4.500 ihp trunk steam engine and 8 boilers allowed a maximum speed of around 14 knots and with 10 knots speed a range of 2.400 nautical miles. Her crew numbered 561 men. The armour consisted of 1-14cm/5.5” thick wrought iron belt with the battery and barbettes protected by respectively 12cm/4.7” and 11.4cm/4.5”. Armament consisted original of 4x1-22.9cm/9” Armstrong rifled muzzle loading guns, 3-x1-20.3cm/8” muzzle loading guns and 14x1-16cm/6.3” Trubia smoothbore guns. Since then at least 2x rearmed. After 1898 even fitted out with 2-35.4cm/14” torpedo tubes.
