An item reported that the American whaling ship Averick captain Reynard of New Bedford, USA 6 months out 500 barrels oil was lost on 5 March at Raiatea when she grounded in a blow on a reef, capsized and sunk. The wreck was sold for 2,000 US dollars to the British captain Hunter living on Tahiti. His intention was to salavge and repair her while she was considered to be a good ship.
