Enemy submarines now also active in Colombo, Ceylon area according to the U.S. Joint Intelligence Committee. Daily summary dated 23 March 1942

An item reported that an allied tanker was torpedoed in the Indian Ocean on a distance of around 400 miles south of Colombo, Ceylon. The J.I.C. commented that this was the first time that submarine activities for this area were reported. Until then just for areas to the north.
