Whaling at Cheyne’s Beach and Mistaken Island, Australia according to the newspaper The Cornwall Chronicle dated Wednesday 11 September 1850

An item reported that in 1850 two whaling parties were active in the Sound namely one at Cheyne’s Beach and the second one at Mistaken Island. Further more was the Hobart town whaling barque Terror lying between Mistaken Island and the u ain? The parties on the shore caught yet 4 whales although being fast to a dozen. The party at the Sound with 2 boats upset and partly stove lost two lines with the irons. Although there were enough whales off the coast at the moment they seemed to be very wild caused by the fine weather.
