Tasmanian cargo ship Poolta 1921-1952 (Despo Chandris 1952-1953, Arif 1953-1961)

Detail of the Panorama Burgerhout, painted by Adolf Bock (5 August 1890 Berlin, Germany-13 January 1968 Helsingborg, Sweden) in 1928 for account of Burgerhout’s Machinefabriek en Scheepswerf N.V., Rotterdam, Netherlands.

Launched by Burgerhout’s Machinefabriek en Scheepswerf N.V., Rotterdam, Netherlands on 30 May 1921 and bought still on stocks by the Tasmanian government for coastal merchant shipping. Sold to the Union Steamship Company, New Zealand in 1925, laid up in 1950, sold to Mrs. .J. Chandris, Piraeus, Greece and renamed Despo Chandris in 1952, sold to Emin Sadikoglu, Istanbul, Turkey and renamed Arif in 1953 and broken up in 1961 at Istanbul, Turkey. Gross tonnage 1,579 tons, net tonnage 932 tons, deadweight 2,510 tons and as dimensions 73.15 (between perpendiculars) x 12.40 (outside trusses) x 6.90 x 5.10 metres and a 850 ihp triple expansion steam engine.
