The Algerian and Venetian navies according to the Dutch newspaper Middelburgsche Courant dated 17 February 1767

Algiers, 27 December 1766. A 24-gun Venetian warship arrived 15 December with the annual present of 10,000 ducats for the Dey. The representative of Venice was sent back lacking a commission and the master while bringing none extra ordinary presents. The Venetian frigate refused however to depart and was still in the harbour when the Venetian representative was told on 19 December to depart immediately or otherwise was his ship destroyed. So they departed. On 24 December arrived the Dutch frigate St. Gregory of Constantinople with presents on board from the Turkish sultan for the Dey consisting of 4 bronze (metal) 36pdrs, 1,482 bombs, 48 masts etc. Of the Algerian privateers were still 8 ships on sea, 2 frigates of 32 and 24 guns and 6 chebecqs of 1-32, 1-26, 1-24, 1-22, 2-16 and 1-14 guns.
