Dutch torpedo boats Z 1-8

Within the Royal Dutch Navy served 8 torpedo boats named Z 1-8 all built in the Netherlands. The Z1-4 were in fact originally ordered to be built in 1914 at the Vulkan Werke at Stettin but when the First World War broke out Germany cancelled the order and the seized boats were completed and served within the Germany navy. The effect of the cancelling was that the Dutch Hr.Ms. Z 1-4 were later built as the Z 5-8.

Z 1, on stocks at the Nederlandsche Scheepsbouw Maatschappij at Amsterdam, Netherlands 29 November 1915, commissioned 22 December 1919 and stricken 1933.
Z 2, on stocks at the Nederlandsche Scheepsbouw Maatschappij at Amsterdam, Netherlands29 November 1915, commissioned 12 January 1921 and stricken 1933.
Z 3, on stocks at the Nederlandsche Scheepsbouw Maatschappij at Amsterdam, Netherlands 30 December 1915, commissioned 21 August 1920, beached by her own crew 14 May 1940 on the levee of the Krabbersgat at Enkhuizen and set into fire. The wreck was refloated 1940-1951 and sold to be broken up.
Z 4, on stocks at the Nederlandsche Scheepsbouw Maatschappij at Amsterdam, Netherlands 30 December 1915, commissioned 20 April 1920 and stricken 1933.
Specifications of the Z 1-4 are dimensions 61,30 x 6,30 x 1,85 metre with a displacement of 277 ton. The steam turbines delivered 5.500 hp allowing a speed of 27 miles. The crew numbered 46 men and they were armed with 2-7.5cm guns, 2-12.7mm machine guns and 4-45 cm torpedo tubes.
Z 5, on stocks at the Koninklijke Maatschappij De Schelde at Flushing, Netherlands 18 February 1914, launched 1 April 1915, commissioned 8 February 1917, escaped 14 May 1940 to England, loaned to the Royal British Navy 2 March 1942 and stricken April 1945.
Z 6, on stocks at the Koninklijke Maatschappij De Schelde at Flushing, Netherlands 18 February 1914, launched 15 April 1915, commissioned 8 February 1917, escaped 14 May 1940 to England, loaned to the Royal British Navy and stricken July 1942.
Z 7, on stocks at the Maatschappij voor Scheeps- en Werktuigbouw Fijenoord at Rotterdam, Netherlands 12 May 1914, launched 10 may 1915, commissioned 8 September 1916, escaped 14 May 1940 to England, loaned to the Royal British Navy and stricken January 1944.
Z 8, on stocks at the Maatschappij voor Scheeps- en Werktuigbouw Fijenoord at Rotterdam, Netherlands 12 May 1914, launched 23 June 1915, commissioned 22 September 1916, escaped 14 May 1940 to England, loaned to the Royal British Navy and stricken January 1944.
Specifications of the Z 1-8 are dimensions 58,50 x 6,00 x 1,66 metre and a displacement of 264 tons. The delivered 5.500 hp allowed a speed of 27 miles. The crew numbered 46 men and they were armed with 2-7.5cm guns, 2-12.7mm machine guns and 4-45 cm torpedo guns.
