Frigate Taedong (PF 63) of South Korea (1943-)


Former USS Tacoma (PF 3), laid down 10 March 1943 at the Permanente Metals Corporation, launched 7 July 1943 and commissioned in the USA navy 6 November 1944. Displacement 1.430 tons and 2.100 tons full load with the dimensions 304 (over all) x 37 1/2 x maximum 13 2/3. Armed with 3-3"guns, 2-40mm guns and 9-20mm anti aircraft guns. The engines delivered 5.500 ihp allowing a speed of 20 knots. Her crew numbered 180 men.

During the Second World War handed over to Russia due to the Lend-Lease scheme. Afterwards returned to the USA and laid up at the naval base at Yohokama, Japan.Commissioned again due to the Korean War and handed over to South Korea.
