Merchant ships possible used by the British navy according to the Nederlandsche Staatscourant dated 16 September 1852

It was well known that regarded existing rules private owned steamboats if necessary could be used by the British navy. Until now the owners reported the government with how many guns their ships could be fitted out. This rule was changed and from now civil servants were to inspect all steamboats and to write down their potential use in war time.
