The shipwrecking of the British merchant ship Lady Caroline in the Nieuwediep according to the Nederlandsche Staatscourant dated 4 January 1850

Nieuwediep, 28 December 1849. This night stranded the British bark ship Lady Caroline master Macanzie coming from Newfoundland and destined for Hull with a cargo of timber at 04.00 o'clock at the Kaagshoofd. Her crew of 14 men was saved and brought at land with a boat of the Dido. The fore and mainmast were broken at deck level, the mizzenmast remained partly. The keel of the ship was sitting immovable over the length of a cable on the stones of the sea dike of Den Helder. It was suspected that there were more ships wrecked considering the large amount of floating apples and casks with gin.
