Austrian cruiser SMS Helgoland 1912->1934


Laid down at the yard of Ganz&Co, Danubius, Fiume, Italy on 28 October 1911, launched on 23 November 1913, commissioned on 29 August 1914, after the First World War handed over to Italy and commissioned as the Brindisi in the Italian navy on 19 September 1920. She was stricken around 25 November 1929 and used as an accommodation ship until 11 March 1934 and later broken up perhaps at Triest.

With a displacement of 3,444.88-3,946.85 (maximum)tons were her dimensions 130,6 x 12,77 x 5,29 metres. The engines and 16 Yarrow boilers provided 30,000 hp allowing a speed of 27 knots. Her crew numbered around 340 men. She was armed with 9-10cm guns, 1-70mm anti aircraft gun and 2x3-54,3cm guns. The armour consisted of a 60mm belt, a 20mm deck while the guns were protected by maximum 40mm and the conning tower by 50mm.
