The Dutch naval strength according to the Dutch newspaper Vlissingse Courant dated 7 September 1884

The Dutch navy consisted of 23 armoured ships included 2 large ram turret ships, 4 large rams, 7 ram monitors, 5 monitors 2nd class, 5 river defence vessels, 30 non armoured gunboats, 10 non armoured screw steamships 1st class and 6 of the 2nd and 3rd class, 1 paddle steamboat, 1 schooner, totally 70 units with 240 guns and 22 torpedo boats while the Indies military navy numbered another 30 ships with 125 guns.

Of the above mentioned armoured ships exist nowadays still two ships, the Schorpioen lying at Den Helder and the Buffel lying at Rotterdam and one screw steamship the Bonaire also at Den Helder.
