Lieutenant Elliott of the Spanish colonial navy vessel Fowa and his battle against 26 Malay pirates in 1835 to the Dutch newspaper Vlissingse courant dated 3 December 1835

In letters coming from Canton, China was the fight mentioned of the British lieutenant Elliott against 26 Malay pirate sloops. Elliott commanded a small vessel of the Spanish colonial navy with a crew of 43 tagals, armed with a bow gun and some swivels aft. He attacked the Malay pirates while shooting and succeeded in destroying at least 8 sloops, each with 24 rowers, while the rest fled. The fight longed 3 hours and in which the crew of the Fowa lost 2 men, while of the 12 wounded later another 2 died.
