Naval operations of the Dutch East Company off Japan according to the Generale Missive dated 10 January 1741

The Arnestijn and the Krabbendijke departed 10 June 1740 towards Japan with a cargo valued fl. 542.464. If the Japanese government asked for help against foreign ships, the Dutch commanders were ordered to act neutral, unless against the Portuguese and Spanish. In case a ship of the these European powers appeared, they were to be attacked and destroyed according to the contract.  Both ships returned 16 December. The voyage towards Japan took 39 days, the return voyage 39 days. The cargo brought back with a value of fl. 578.099 existing of porcelain, 10.000 cases of copper and Japanese goods (lacquered ware). The latter partly destined for Coromandel.
