Russian coast defence ship Admiral Seniavin 1892-1905 and in Japanese naval service as the 2nd class coastal defence vessel Mishima 1905-1936


Of the Admiral Ushkaov-class with as sister ships the Admiral Ushakov and the General Admiral Graf Apraksin. Laid down at the yard of the Baltic Works, St. Petersburg, Russia in 2 August 1892, launched 22 August 1894, commissioned in 1895, captured on 28 May 1905 by Japan, commissioned in Japanese service as the Mishima on 6 June 1905, reclassified as a submarine tender on 1 April 1921, stricken on 10 October 1935 and sunk in September 1936 when used as a target off Kushima, Miyazuki.

With a displacement of 4,1165 long tons/4,232 tons normal and 4,270 long tons/4,3339 tons maximum were her dimensions 84,6 x 15,88 x 5,49metres or 277’7”x 52’1” x 18’0”. The 2-shaft engine and 4 boilers supplied 5,250shp allowing a speed of 16 knots. With a coal bunker capacity of 260 tons and a speed of 10 knots was her range 3,000 nautical miles. Her crew numbered 406 men in Russian service. The original armament consisted of 4-25,4cm guns, 4-12cm guns, 10-4,7cm guns, 12-3,7cm guns and 4-45cm torpedo tubes. The armour consisted of a 250mm belt, a 75mm deck while the turrets were protected by 200mm.
