The the following news item. From Genoa arrived a tiding dated 6 November that the king arrived an day earlier and visited the fleet. At Genoa were 2-3masters with war stores available, at Savona 1 storeship and 1 steamship, at Nizza 1 corvette and 1 goelette and off the Sardinian coasts patrolled some brigs an at Spezia were some vessels with soldiers aboard. At Cagliari and other places were sailors pressed into the service. According to French tidings arrived at Genoa 600 sailors coming from merchant ships or other places in Sardinia. A war brig arrived at Genoa coming from Tuscany and a second one from sea, both ships were stationed at Spezia. Within some days were 10 warships to be ready for departure. Two transports loaded with war stores destined for Spain en the steamboat to protect them, still did not depart, probably due to the British, Spanish and Portuguese cruisers waiting in the Gulf of Genoa. According to government papers the fleet of Naples consisted of 2 ships of the line, 5 frigates and 45 smaller vessels.

Due to the disagreeableness between the court and the Portuguese government decided to fit out the complete fleet to protect the honour of the crown and his subjects. There were 7 frigates, 4 of them armed with 64 guns, 3 corvettes, 3 brigs, some galleys and gunboats and 3 warships.
