The Spanish shipbuilding program according to the Dutch newspaper Zierikzeesche Courant dated 8 October 1887

The naval budget of 225,000,000 credited by the Cortes was to be used by the High Naval Council for one ironclad, 6 armoured cruisers each of 7,000 ton, 3 cruisers of 3,100 ton, 9 cruisers of 1,600 ton, 25 torpedo cruisers of the same type as the recently in England build Destructor, 30 torpedo boats 2nd class, a training corvette, 12 gunboats of 500 tons and 20 steam barges for the colonies.
