Dutch screw steam warship 4th class Zr.Ms.Pontianak 1873-1898


The Pontianak was built by the Koninklijke Fabriek van stoom- en andere werktuigen at Amsterdam, Netherlands. On stocks July 1873, launched December 1873 and commissioned 25 May 1874 with Lieutenant 1st class J.H. Commijs as commanding officer. She left the building yard 28 May 1874 and arrived 7 September the Dutch East Indies. Dimensions 42.00/45.00 x 8.80 x 3.60m, wit a displacement of 732 tons. 90 nhp or 370 ehp, one single screw with a speed of 9.5 knots. Her crew existed of 76 European and 24 inland members. Composite-built and coppered. Armed originally with 1-18cm and 2-12cm guns. Decommissioned 1 February 1898, condemned and sold.
