France and Italy both allowed to have five battleships according to the Dutch newspaper Het Vaderland: staat- en letterkundig nieuwsblad morning edition dated 3 December 1921

According to a tiding coming from the correspondent in London received he a day earlier news from Washington that France and Italy both were allowed to have a total tonnage of 200.000 ton for capital ships. These news was however not correct as a day later in the opinion of the disarmament commission this was to much and that a maximum tonnage of 130.000 ton or 5 battleships for each nation was enough.
