Berlin, 23 May. The only survivor of the cruiser Köln sunk during the First World War in the North Sea was present at the launching of the newly built cruiser Köln of 6,000 tons which was accomplished by the widow of the commanding officer of her predecessor.(1)

A light cruiser laid down at the Reichsmarinewerft at Wilhelmshaven on 7 August 1926, launched on 23 May 1928, commissioned on 15 January 1930, sunk during a British aircraft attack on Wilhelmshaven in 3 March 1945 and broken up in 1946. Another Dutch newspaper the Nieuwe Rotterdamsche Courant evening edition dated 25 May 1928 wrote that Adenauer, burgomaster of Köln speached before the baptising by the widow of captain Meldinger commanding officer of her predecessor Köln scuttled by her own crew on 28 August 1914. Present were the ministers Groener, Hergt and Köhler.
