German intentions to attack Danish warships at Kiel and Hamburg according to the Dutch newspaper Schiedamsche Courant dated 20 May 1848

Hamburg, 14 May. In Kiel were 300 sailors recruited to attack the Danish 18-gun corvette Galathea the same evening. Each sailor was directly 10 daalders paid and an monthly payment of another 10 daalders promised and each sailor was to get a bounty of 50 daalders if the attack was successful. According to intelligence tidings was the corvette very weak so an attack was probably to succeed. A part of the volunteer corps was to join the sailors.The citizens of Hamburg intended to attack with 3 steamboats the Danish 46-gun warship at their harbour.

According to the website http://www.navalhistory.dk/english/theships/g/galathea(1833).htm  was she launched on 6 October 1831 at the naval dockyard at Gammelholm, Copenhagen and decommissioned on 4 July 1861. She was armed with 26-18pdr guns and 6-4pdr guns. Dimensions were 42,2 x 10,2 x 4,5 metres.
