Israeli type 540 Gal-class submarines 1976-2002

Totally three planned and built by Vickers, Barrow in Furnes, United Kingdom and which was a modified German HDW Type 206 submarine, preceded by the S and T classes and succeeded by the Dolphin-class. Consited of the Gal launched on 2 December 1975, commissioned in June 1976, decommissioned in 2000 and since 2007 museum ship, the Tanin (ex-Gur), launched on 25 October 1976, commissioned in June 1977 and decommissioned in 2002 and the Rahav launched on 8 May 1977, commissioned on 18 December 1977 and decommissioned in 1997. 

General technical details. Displacement 420 (surfaced)-600 9(submerged) tons and as dimensions 45 x 4,7 x 3,7 metres or 148 x 15 x 12 feet. Propulsion consisted of 2x1.200hp MTU diesels and AEG Generator and one 1.800hp elect motor allowing a speed of 11 (surfaced)-17 9submerged) knots. Crew numbered 32 men. Armament consisted of 8-53,3cm torpedo tubes, Sub-Harpoon Missiles NT37E torpedoes and a SAM launcher.
