Kawasaki KX-03 flying boat design of 1943 for Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service

The Imperial Japanese navy ordered early 1943 the Kawasaki plant to investigate the possibilities of building a flying boat measuring 500 tons. According to the techical reports No. 51, 544 4 and 566 were her dimensionsions to be an overall length of 162 metres, a wings span of 180 metres and a height of 35,4 metres. The wing area was estimated to be 1,150 square metres. The gross weight was 460 tons while she could transport 900 soldiers with their ordinary equiipment.


The sources supplies different details dealing with the supplied horsepower by the Ne201 turbo prop engines. Weapon suggested 7000hp+ a static thrust of 900 kg for one single engine, so with 12 engines totally 132,000 hp while Kikka mentioned that each engine supplied 1,870 hp. Except for the 12 turbe prop engines were also 6 Ne330 engines available supplying totally 7,920 hp. The range was 18,520 kilometres. Her crew numbered 24 men.
