In this newspaper was an item published dealing with the lay down of keels for new battle cruisers in the United States. The design of these ships differs largely from those used in other countries. Caused by the fitting out with six or more funnels they had a complete other view than contemporary major ships. There were some small destroyers with 6 funnels but nowhere were more as 5 funnels used.(1) The engines existed of steam turbines driving electric engines allowing a speed of at least 35 knots.
Note
1. This is not true, for instance the French Edgar Quinet-class had all ready 6 funnels and she was launched on 21 September 1907.
