British fast sealift ship RFA Sea Centurion (A 98) 1998-2002


Belonged to the Royal Fleet Auxiliary. Launched in 1997 at the yard of the Societa Esercizio Cantieri at Vareggo on behalf of the Stena Line (Stena Ro-Ro) as the roll-on/roll-off ship Stena Ausona (later renamed Und Ege) with as sister ships Stena Freighter and Aronte, the first was planned to become the RFA Sea Chieftain. She was completed in September 1998 and as the Sea Centurion commissioned on 18 October 1998 and decommissioned on 25 July four years later and transferred to the Stena Line.

Details while serving as the Sea Centurion. With a deadweight of 12,350 tons and a displacement of 22,000 (full load) were the dimensions 185,4 x 22,5 x 8,3 metres or 608’3”x 73’10”x 27’3”. The 4-8 cylinder Sulzer diesels supplied 31,334 hp allowing a speed of 22 knots and with a speed of 12 knots a range of 12,000 nautical miles. Her crew numbered 17-18 men. Her cargo capacity was 800 x 20 fete and 268 x 40 feet containers and 211 x 40 feet containers. She could be used for so-called Joint Rapid Deployment and also for MOD freighting.

With a deadweight of 12,350 metric tonnes, gross tonnage of 21,104 tons, a net tonnage of6,331 tonnes and as dimensions 182.6 x 255 (moulded)-25,8 (fender) x 6,60 (design)-7,40 (maximum) metres. Speed 12,8-20 knots. Owner Stena AB.  Served as the Mont Ventoux 2003-2005 for Sudcargo, as Stena Forwarder in 2005 for Sudcargo, 2005-2007 for Acciona Tranmediterranea and 2007 for DFDS Line as Ark Forwarder 2007-2009 for DFDS Tor Line, 2009 for Smyril Line, 2009-2010 for DFDS Tor Line and 2010-2011 for Stena Line. Accommodation for 12 passengers. She is part of the so-called ARK project meaning that she is if necessary available for NATO RESPONSE deployments and for Danish and German strategic deployments,.
