Dutch mega pipe layer MV 'Solitaire' 1994-

IMO no. 71298849, MMSI no. 351597000 and call sign 3ECI8. Panama-flagged. The original specifications for the conversion at the Sembawang Shipyard at Singapore were using a large Capesize bulk carrier hull which was to be extensively converted. The dimensions according to these specifications were to be 285 (hull)-353 (included stringer) x 40,6 (hull) x 9,5 (design hull)-13,5 (maximum operationa) x a depth to main deck of 24,0 metres. Her conversion at the Swan Hunter’s Yard, Newcastle, United Kingdom was ordered in December 1994 using the principles of the Lorelay, she was completed in March 1996, christened in May 1997 and since 1998 operational. Operated by Allseas Engineering. Her length is 249 (between perpendiculars)-300 (over all excluding the stinger)-400 (over all including the stinger) metres. Her maximum speed is 13,5 knots. She is the largest pipe lay vessel of the world and has since 2007 the deepwater pipe lay record with a depth of 2,775 metres of 9,100 feet. With a pipe transport capacity of 22,000 tons is she able to lay pipes over a distance of 9 kilometres each days. In 2005 during a period of three months refitted at the Keppel Verolme Shipyard, Rotterdam-Botlek, Netherlands with a holding force of 1,050 metric tons (was 525) and an abandonment and recovery capacity of 1,050 metric tons (was 400) making her able to lay the pipelines of the heaviest type with a diameter of 2-60”. Her old stinger was replaced by a new one consisting of 4 instead of 3 sections and a length of 140 in stead of 110 metres. The stinger is used to support the pipeline during the installation of the pipeline on the seabed. On board is accommodation available for 420 men. She is fitted out with several cranes.
