A tiding dated Ferrol 14 April reported that daily the outbreak of a war was expected and that several ships were added to the fleet. If this process continued would the whole Spanish navy be fitted out caused by the continuous sent letters from Madrid ordering to double the activities and to restore the condition of the fleet. Some days ago arrived some officers at Ferrol which assured that the other royal navy yards were just as busy as the one at Ferrol. According to some rumours was the fitting out at this scale not only done to stop the Russian fleet.(1)
Note
1. I suppose it’s the Russo-Turkish war between 1787-1792 which caused these preparations and not the Russo-Swedish war between 1788 and 1790.
